The MCN Civic Learning Council brings together faculty, administrators, and education leaders committed to advancing civic engagement and student leadership in higher education.

Convened by the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), the Council builds on nearly two decades of work supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and student-led impact. With MCN active on 280+ campuses across 48 countries, the Council shape a global community of practice dedicated to fostering civic engagement and driving sustainable development through higher education.

Meet the Council


Dr. Sue Maxam

Pace University, United States

Dr. Sue Maxam is the Assistant Provost for Wellness and has worked at Pace University for the past 36 years in a variety of leadership and teaching roles relating to wellbeing, social justice, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, cultural intelligence, student success, and career services.

Sue holds a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership with a focus on Social Justice and has done volunteer, and educational outreach work in the U.S., Latin America, and Africa, which aligns with her life’s mission, which is to “be the change” she wants to see in the world! Sue is the proud recipient of regional, statewide, and national women’s leadership, social justice, education, and diversity, equity and inclusion awards for her advocacy work, and is thrilled to serve as Co-Chair of MCN Civic Learning Council so that together, we can further advance the civic leadership, experiential education, and social impact work that students carry out globally!

Our belief is that higher education has a crucial role to play in bolstering civic life and preparing young leaders for lives of impact.

We’re inviting university leaders- faculty, administrators, and education innovators who are passionate about civic engagement and student leadership to join the MCN Civic Learning Council.

While we welcome expressions of interest from all higher education institutions, priority will be given to campuses where the Millennium Fellowship has been hosted.
