MCN Receives Support from Schmidt Futures

Boston, MA, June 12th, 2023 -

Millennium Campus Network (MCN) announces support from Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt. This support will enable specialized content, community, and assistance  to over 400 emerging technologists selected for the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2023. The Millennium Fellowship is a civic leadership program for undergraduates advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MCN launched the Millennium Fellowship in 2013 to provide training, connections, and credentials to civically-engaged undergraduates. Since 2018, MCN has partnered with the United Nations Academic Impact on the Millennium Fellowship, expanding the program to draw 40,000+ applicants per year. Thousands of Millennium Fellows are selected annually in active cohorts at over 200 universities worldwide. Millennium Fellows engage in 10 leadership sessions throughout the fall semester and take action to advance the SDGs through grassroots initiatives. With support from Schmidt Futures, emerging technologists in the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2023 will explore the role of technology in social impact through case studies, network virtually with industry leaders, and learn from each other.  Fellows will utilize technology in initiatives to advance the SDGs: increasing educational access, bolstering public health, and addressing climate change in their communities.

“This partnership with Schmidt Futures is a vote of confidence in our network and the emerging technologists who are shaping the world” - Sam Vaghar, MCN Executive Director

“This partnership with Schmidt Futures is a vote of confidence in our network and the emerging technologists who are shaping the world.  Undergraduates are studying computer science and engineering, and are committed to using their talents to bolster their communities. With Millennium Fellowship projects ranging from running a mentorship program for women entering cybersecurity to utilizing a mobile application to help reduce smallholder farmers’ post-harvest losses, we are thrilled to pilot customized engagement with a diverse class of emerging technologists across our global network. We are honored to partner with Schmidt Futures, a philanthropy that understands why and how meaningfully supporting young people can have outsized impact now and for decades to come,” shared Sam Vaghar, MCN’s Executive Director and Co-Founder.
